When
choosing a portrait artist, the sitter will need to feel at ease with
the process. Michael always takes care to ensure his subjects are
comfortable and takes the time to discuss his ideas. Very often he
will strive to challenge their self-perceived aspects – not
always as easy task – in order to capture the very essence of
their character; a process that, to-date, has yet to produce a single
unhappy customer.
-
Having received a portrait enquiry, Michael first likes to arrange
a non-committal meeting to talk through various ideas, to look at
different approaches and styles of portraiture and give some idea
of cost. Once agreed, a sitting is arranged which usually

lasts
for an hour or two (less in the case of a child), during which time
he will produce drawings, colour notes and take some photographs.
After this he will advance the work almost to completion and then
arrange another meeting to ensure both parties are happy with the
way the portrait has progressed. Only then will the painting be completed.
-
Michael is also happy to produce a portrait as a surprise gift from
one person to another – provided that a selection of good photographs
are available, and that the benefactor is assured that it will be
comfortably received by the recipient! |
